Global call for January 2025 for feminist action weeks: We won´t remain silent! We defend the women’s revolution in Rojava!
Women’s liberation is the heart of a democratic Syria!

For weeks, a war has been raging against the Democratic Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria. The Turkish army is threatening Kobanê with tanks and bombing it with drones and warplanes, while the fighters of the Turkish-controlled SNA are attacking on the ground. There has been heavy fighting along the Euphrates for weeks, and the so-called IS has repeatedly attacked the internal security structures of the Autonomous Administration. Meanwhile, the international community and the HTS are talking about disarming ‘Kurdish fighting units’. This would leave the monopoly of arms in the hands of the jihadist HTS, which wants to establish a new Islamic republic in Syria and does not recognize the diversity of the Syrian population or the social and political power of women.
The Autonomous Administration has existed in North and East Syria for over 10 years. The Kongra Star women’s movement has been existing for nearly 20 years and in January we are also celebrating the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Kobanê from IS. The people who defeated IS were the self-defense forces of the Autonomous Administration – the YPG and YPJ under the pioneering leadership of women. For over 10 years, we have seen the women’s revolution blossom with what has been achieved so far and we know that much can still be achieved. The women’s village of Jinwar, women’s cooperatives, justice structures such as Mala Jin, or the organization Sara, which fights against feminicides, are achievements that have grown during the revolution in Rojava. All of these working for a free life, for women and girls, and thus for society as a whole. We must defend all of this today!

6-12 January: Sara, Rojbîn, Ronahî! – Jin Jiyan Azadî!
January 9 is the anniversary of the massacre of our friends Sara, Rojbîn and Ronahî in Paris. We will not simply stand by and allow these feminicides to happen, instead we are constantly expanding our self-defense! Our struggle is strong and manifold! As the YPJ, as a women’s health center, as the women’s village Jinwar, as a women’s organization in Kurdistan and all over the world – together we defend life! #StopFemicides #JinJiyanAzadî
13-19 January: Recognise the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria!
For peace and democracy in Syria, it is essential for the Autonomous Administration to be recognized worldwide – so that it can have a positive influence for the whole of Syria. Planning and growing together as a society must be based on the values and principles of women. A force fighting for this for 20 years now is the women’s movement Kongra Star. We therefore want to celebrate them on their 20th anniversary, standing by their side when we say: Women’s liberation is the heart of a democratic Syria! #TrustInWomenNotStates
20-26 January: The struggle for liberation is a struggle against imperialism and the hegemonic weapons industry – Kobanê is the heart of the revolution!
The weapons technology, tanks and drones which Turkey uses to attack Kobanês civil society and Self-Defense Forces of SDF, is produced in the capitalist centers. The USA, Great Britain, France, Spain, Germany and Sweden are making new arms deals with Turkey because for them war means money. This week we are broadcasting our rejection of the arms industry to the world. We trust women, not states! #TrustInWomenNotStates
27 January-02 February: Report the truth! – Free press for free women!
False information is being spread especially in times of war. Turkey itself is launching a broad special war of covering and twisting the truth, so that it has become ever more important to investigate and report on it. Although being an international war crime, journalists are continuously being killed by warring states all over the world. In North and East Syria, Turkey relentlessly targets those who spread the word about their occupation and war crimes. This must be condemned and stopped!
